Briefly Noted: “Virtue Signals” at Social Matter

orderofthegarter5b25dSocial Matter has published my essay More than you ever wanted to know about virtue signals.  I start by analyzing the roots of virtue-signaling in everyday life, allowing us to see how virtue signals function, and how this function breaks down in the political sphere. From there, I explore the nexus of progressive “virtues,” social status and prestige, thus exposing the interplay between virtue-signaling and status-signaling.

My thanks to Hadley Bishop for his tireless editorial work.
